Lego Challenge–The Mix-Up Theme Challenge

My friend and I auditioned for “Lego Masters” back in the day, and one of the things that they wanted to see was as many builds as possible. So one night we got together to build, and decided to build something simple, like a farm. But that quickly got boring, so we made what a farm would look like in space instead–complete with a jetpack sheep, a mutant pig, and a rocket barn.

That the was the inspiration for this theme–take a generic theme like castles or pirates that you probably have already done before, and put some sort of twist on it. So taking what you’re comfortable building and adding a creative twist on it and thinking outside the box. The prep for this was really simple, just print out the sheet I made, and cut out the slips making sure to separate the left slips from the right slips.

So after rules, I told my kiddos that we would be stretching our creativity by combining themes and making some crazy stuff. Each kiddo picked their two slips but if they really didn’t like their combination, they could put their slips back and pull again until they got something they wanted.

Results were mixed on this one. Most of the kids did it but some of them seemed confused, but my older kiddos really had a blast with this one. Whenever you do something like this, there will always be one or two kids that will want to keep pulling slips which is fine but just expect that.

Forgot to take photos for this one, so I’ll post photos when I repeat this over summer.

Here’s my sheet for the Mix Up Theme Challenge:
